Bill was a stubborn man, and once his mind was made up, there was little that could change it. When he announced to his men's breakfast group that it was impossible to grow in the faith, the other members knew they had an interesting situation on their hands. Bill's contention was that a person either had faith or not ... like a woman is either pregnant or she's not. And while the baby certainly grows within the mother's womb, she still is "just" pregnant.
Now most in the group believed a person could grow in faith ... because most had experienced such growth in his own life. But Bill was a stubborn man and wasn't going to be convinced by the likes of the others! Then, Bill's grandson, who had led a troubled life for all of his nineteen years, committed suicide. The breakfast group rallied around Bill and supported him through the whole ordeal ... from the emergency room where he heard the awful truth for the first time ... to the lonely days after the funeral when all of the other company had gone back to their homes ... and still the men were there for Bill.
Somewhere during this whole time, Bill's faith grew as he saw faith in action.
