The year 1985 saw a lot of "firsts" for Tom, a young pastor from Ohio. He was leading his first mission trip. He was taking his first-ever airplane flight (from Cleveland to the Fiji Islands!). It was his first time out of the United States. It was his first time to ever preach with an interpreter to assist him. Once in Fiji, it was his first time to drive on the left side of the road while sitting on the right side of the vehicle and shifting the gears with his left hand.
What he wanted most during that driving experience was someone to tell him exactly what to do, particularly when at a corner where he was making a turn. What he usually did back home almost by second nature, he really had to think about in that situation.
Sometimes we just want a list of what we're supposed to do and what we're not supposed to do.
