A weary couple will again welcome their adult son home from the addiction services rehab center after his court plea bargain for driving under the influence of alcohol. It has been a long road with automotive insurance, towing, attorney, and court costs. There have been many times of doubts, loneliness, and personal pain as the parents wonder what they have done wrong. This is not the best Christmas season the family has ever had. How will they explain this to the relatives at all the family holiday gatherings?
Upon arrival at the local Al-Anon meeting, the parents were assured that they did not cause the disease of alcoholism, nor can they cure or control it. They must keep the focus on their own spirituality and allow their son to handle life on life's terms. Essentially, God or their Higher Power will provide in some mysterious way!
Unexpectedly their son got a ride home with one of his friends and announced that he found a job! "Comfort, comfort my people says the Lord." This is Isaiah's message of hope to an "exiled" people during Advent.
