The young father was getting active in the church for the first time in his life. Neither Steve nor his wife had been brought up in the church and so this was an all-new experience for them and for their three-year-old son, Michael. They recognized that God had a purpose for them and they had a responsibility to seek out that purpose and to raise their son in the faith and in the church.
Although still in college and taking a full class load, Steve agreed to take one of the main roles in the church Christmas program. He played the father in the family. The program opened in complete darkness and then the spotlight came on Steve as he was sitting in a chair in the living room of the set. Before Steve could say his opening line, Michael's voice was heard loud and clear in the congregation when he said, "That's my daddy!" The church had a collective chuckle and then the play went on as planned.
On the first Christmas, the curtain opened and the spotlight shown on a baby boy and a voice was heard ... "That's my boy ... World, your Savior comes!"
