Anyone who has seen movies or read books about Native Americans is aware of the oft-quoted words relating to Indian/White treaties: "As long as the grass grows and the water flows ..."
Native Americans have always had a profound respect for the wondrous miracles of nature, and for the ceaseless cycles of its reproductive process.
Isaiah, in speaking of God's faithfulness and of Zion's future vindication, uses the certainty of nature's blooming vegetation as an analogy.
There are many things in life which we take for granted: the rising of the sun each day; the falling of the rain; and the growth of flowers, fruits, and vegetables. And we believe in these things, not because of any power which we possess, but because of the constant love of God, who is the Author of all life, and who is able to bring all things to perfection.
