They asked four questions, first whether they ought to renounce the object of their missions, secondly, and if not, should they direct their attention to the eastern or western world; thirdly could they expect patronage and support and finally what measures should they take to prepare? "The undersigned, feeling their youth and inexperience, look up to their fathers in the church, and respectfully solicit their advice, direction, and prayers."2
It was signed by Adoniram Judson Jr., Samuel Nott Jr., Samuel Mills and Samuel Newell. Naivete? Courage? Faith? From this grew the first overseas mission. The world was forever changed.
