Verse 27 states, "... you, too, will speak about me, because you have been with me from the very beginning" (TEV). Fortunately, we do not have to have been one of the original disciples to feel that Christ is with us. I think of John Paton, who was a missionary to the New Hebrides. When he had been there only three months, his wife died. He had to dig her grave with his own bare hands as the hostile natives watched. Later Paton said, "If it had not been for Christ and the friendship that he vouchsafed for me, I should have gone mad and died beside that lonely grave."
