At night, driving down Cumberland Avenue in Middlesboro, Kentucky, newcomers are often startled to see a huge, lighted cross, seemingly suspended in the sky. The cross is actually a lange number of lights arranged on the side of a mountain, bearing witness to the faith of a man who conceived the idea many years ago, and to those who continue to maintain the unusual and striking symbol of God's love given freely to humankind.
The cross is a symbol, but a very important one. It reminds us of Christ's suffering and death on the cross for our sins; but it also speaks of his resurrection, and bears witness to the fact that we are his followers and will share in resurrection with him.
