There are many thought-provoking and deeply moving scenes in the Academy Award-winning film, Schindler's List. And there are specific moments in the film which render the viewing audience nearly breathless, and in which it is not uncommon to hear a sudden intake of breath or a muffled cry. Still, it is near the very end of the film -- when surviving Jews from Schindler's list of names file solemnly by the grave of Herr Schindler, each person placing a stone on the grave -- that a great depth of silence engulfs everyone watching the scene. In that moment, in that silent, powerful yet fragile moment in a graveyard outside the walls of Jerusalem, we today may recall what Baruch has written: Arise, O Jerusalem, stand upon the height and look toward the east, and see your children gathered from west and east, at the word of the Holy One, rejoicing that God has remembered them (5:5). -- Saxon
