During the Black Hawk Indian...
During the Black Hawk Indian War, Abraham Lincoln fought as a captain. One day he was marching part of his company across a field, and they were coming to a gate through which they would have to pass. Lincoln said later, "I could not for the life of me remember the proper word of command for getting my company endwise. Finally, as we came near, I shouted, 'This company is dismissed for two minutes, when it will fall in again on the other side of that gate!' " As President, Lincoln liked to tell that story about himself. We like to call that office the most powerful in the free world.
