A rather skeptical young man...

A rather skeptical young man moved into the little village. He was invited to come to worship on the sabbath at the synagogue. He asked why he should worship at the particular synagogue and the people replied, "We have the greatest rabbi, for on every Friday morning, in preparation for the sabbath he ascends to the heights of heaven." The young man heard this over and over again and finally decided to spy on the rabbi to find out exactly where he went each and every Friday. He waited outside the rabbi's house and then the rabbi came out dressed in work clothes. He followed the rabbi into the woods to a small cottage where an old widow woman lived. The rabbi chopped down a tree and cut it into enough firewood to last a week. His task done, he returned home. The newcomer joined the synagogue and now when newcomers ask why they should join the synagogue someone says, "Because on every Friday, in preparation for the sabbath, our rabbi ascends to heaven." And the skeptical young man adds, "If not higher." Jesus our priest leads us to the heights of heaven through his example of loving service. -- Joseph
