Many legends have been told about the great wisdom of King Solomon. One such legend involved a queen, a king and a bee. It seems the Queen of Sheba had heard about the wisdom of the king of Israel and decided to put him to the test. She called together the most skilled craftsmen in the land and commanded them to fashion for her a bouquet of flowers. The flowers were to be so beautiful that one standing only a few inches away could not tell if they were real or fakes. The workmen labored long and hard and created a bouquet that even had the fragrance of real flowers. The queen planned a trip to see just how much wisdom this Solomon really had and if he could tell the real flowers from the fake ones. King Solomon received the queen in a manner worthy of her position. Finally the moment arrived and the queen issued her challenge. Presenting two bouquets, she said, "Tell me, you who can always see the truth, which of these bouquets is made up of real flowers and which is false?" There was a deep silence in the vast hall. Not one person present could see any difference in the two. After a few moments the king could hear the murmuring of the people. "Could the king really tell the difference?" they were asking themselves. But above the racket, Solomon could hear something else, the hum of a bee. The king saw the small bee and watched. The queen and the people were too caught up in the moment to notice it. The bee landed in the real bouquet and Solomon pointed it out. It was through the service of a small seemingly insignificant bee that the king was able to deal with the circumstances before him. -- Angus
