In the Peanuts Christmas special...

In the Peanuts Christmas special, Snoopy's doghouse is covered with every kind of flashing light and gaudy ornament that he could find. And that doghouse symbolizes everything that is wrong with Christmas today. But, of course, Snoopy's doghouse wins first prize in the neighborhood decorating contest. And then there is Charlie Brown with his scrawny little tree. It is weak and small, but Charlie Brown feels the need to take it in and take care of it. But as soon as he hangs one ornament on the little tree, it topples over, and Charlie Brown walks away, figuring that he has killed it. Finally, along come Charlie Brown's friends, and by taking decorations off the doghouse and putting them onto the little tree, they create the nicest Christmas tree that they have ever seen. While Charlie Brown was not looking, a great reversal took place. The mystery of our faith is that power has come to us through weakness; that God took what was despised and turned it into glory. -- Bowen
