When we're away from friends...

When we're away from friends and family for a long time, we may become "homesick" for them. We might also find ourselves questioning their love for us, wondering if the relationship can remain strong and healthy after so long, over such a great distance. At such times, letters from our loved ones are essential. Messages relayed through others are also important. The kind words and news of their lives help us stay connected and remind us of their care and concern. Little gifts also assure us of their love.
But a phone call is even better than a letter or package, because we can hear them in person, gather information from their tone of voice, and have a real give-and-take conversation. Such calls allow us to remember the good times we had and plan for a future together.
Sometimes, however, phone calls may leave us lonelier than before, and we long for a personal visit. No matter how caring, supportive and reassuring our friends and family have been during our absence, it is only when we see their smiles, hug them, eat and play with them that we are finally reassured that the relationship is healthy and strong.
God's Son has spoken to us. God's Son has even lived among us!
