It probably is helpful when considering these crucial and beautiful words of institution of the Lord's supper, that Paul gave us these words as part of a tirade against abuses by the Corinthian congregation. The divisions among its members, the overindulgence of others with the wine and in general the "contempt" for one another that existed was an affront to Paul and to the institution of the Lord's supper. Perhaps it is a good idea sometimes to read the words of institution as a scolding, as a wake-up call that parishioners sometimes need. And remember that this tirade is part of a larger confrontation of Paul to the congregation, which includes (or concludes?) with the strong statement of the greatest gift of all being love. "Remember the remembrance" is Paul's intention.
