Remains
Cemetery overgrown with weeds,
resting place of forgotten saints,
stones set to mark each space,
to help all who remain
stay in touch with who you were;
stones knocked over by time
and irreverent visitors;
letters worn away, barely legible;
dirt and dust and weeds and stones
above the disappearing bones
of saints gone on to glory:
Let us not forget
you live on yet,
for memories are not buried
to decay with flesh.
Memories linger,
to restore our aching souls,
to refill our empty hearts.
