And to him was given...

"And to him was given dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him ..." The reference is to "one like a son of man" who comes "with the clouds of heaven," whose "dominion is an everlasting dominion" and whose kingdom is "one that shall not be destroyed." There is only one in all history to whom that description applies. Consider him. A group of British noblemen were gathered in London when the king of Great Britain entered the room. The men all knew the king personally as a man; yet they all honored him as their king. So when he entered they solemnly stood to their feet. "Take your seats, gentlemen," said the king, "I count you as personal friends." Then jokingly he added, "I am not the Lord, you know." Whereupon, one of the men, a devout Christian, said to the king, "No, sir; if you were our Lord, we would not stand to our feet; we would fall on our knees." Once, when Queen Victoria was in the audience, Dean Farrar of Canterbury preached on the second coming of Christ. Afterward the queen said to him, "I wish he would come in my lifetime." "Why?" asked Farrar. And Victoria answered, "I would so like to lay my crown at his feet." -- Mann
