Dave Thomas, a Columbus, Ohio...

Dave Thomas, a Columbus, Ohio, businessman, had a great idea of making old-fashioned hamburgers that he thought people would like even better than the hamburgers produced by McDonald's and Burger King. He had the idea and the experience, but he needed a name, a logo, to symbolize his new venture. He thought of using one of his children's names, but as he thought of them none of the names rang a bell -- Pam, Kenny, Molly, Melinda, or Lori. He thought that nothing would be more appealing to him than to have an advertisement showing a little girl, smiling and rosy-
cheeked, enjoying one of his fresh, made-to-order hamburgers, but none of his daughters' names fit. Then it came to him. In his own words, "When my daughter, Melinda Lou, was born, neither her brother nor her two sisters could pronounce her name. They started calling her Wenda, which then turned into Wendy. Her cleanly scrubbed, freckled face was it. I knew that was the name and the image for the business, 'Wendy's.' " "It came to him." How much more true is this in the life of the church? Jesus has promised his followers that he will send the Spirit of truth. He "comes" to us at just the right time to disclose the things we need to know and do. -- Hasler
