The media is criticized for taking people whose accomplishments have dubious merit and making them celebrities (if only for a brief time). The criticism is that they hold these people up as special, fine, capable, and clever. This causes their viewers to question if holding onto strong, traditional values is worth the effort. Often when the rest of the story is told, we start to see some lack of substance in many of these folk. Then we are called again to more solid work, such as the widow giving what she had and being blessed for it. -- Gobrecht
