Dr. Laura Schlessinger tells a story she attributes to a minister friend. The family was out to eat at a fine restaurant and when the food came the young boy asked to be allowed to say grace. They all bowed their heads while around the restaurant other heads turned their way. The boy prayed, "God is great, God is good, and we thank him for our food. And I hope Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And liberty and justice for all. Amen." A woman at a nearby table was heard to say, "That's the trouble with this country. Kids these days don't even know how to pray right. Can you imagine praying for ice cream?" A little later an older gentleman walked by, leaned down, and said to the boy in a stage whisper. "I happen to know that God really liked your prayer. And it's too bad that that woman over there doesn't pray for ice cream once in a while. A little ice cream is good for the soul." Well, after all that Mom couldn't help but order ice cream. When it came the boy looked down at it for almost a whole minute. Finally he got up, picked up the fancy sundae, and put it in front of the gossipy lady. As everyone looked at him with shocked expressions, he said, "I want you to have it. Ice cream is good for the soul, and my soul is good enough already!"
