To think you have a disease so despicable, so revolting that you could only live with others who had that disease. You wouldn't be able to be seen in public, have visitors, or have human contact except by your caretakers. Leprosy has a stigma that other diseases don't quite have. Then imagine being healed only because of a word from Jesus. How would you react? Would you take the time to tell everyone what happened? Would you go and live as God intended you to live? Would you be so overwhelmed as to be speechless? Would you even dare to hope you could return to life with a semblance of normalcy? It's hard to imagine what those ten men in our text went through when Jesus proclaimed they were healed. The story has been analyzed from several different angles. We can't say if the others were grateful just because they didn't express it at that time. But what we do know from the one who offered thanks is that he recognized Jesus' action as an act of God. He praised God in his gratitude to Jesus. He knew the source of his healing.
