Paul reminds us that there...

Paul reminds us that there is protection and safety in a clear conscience. "Do not be frightened," he says, "but set apart Christ as Lord." When my children were little, they were frightened by storms. Many a night as the lightning flashed and the thunder roared, a little voice would call out, "Mama, Dad -- I'm scared." I'd go down the hall to their room and sit with them, hold them, and sing to them until they dropped off to sleep. One night, I got up to leave and that same little voice said, "Mama, don't leave until I'm asleep again." It was interesting to me that he didn't say, "Make the thunder stop, or make it stop raining, or get rid of the lightning." No, he only said, "Stay with me until I'm safely asleep." There is safety and protection when we "set apart Christ as Lord." He is with us and we can trust him, even in the midst of suffering.
