Patience is a virtue. At least, that's what I was taught when I was child. And when the sun is shining and I'm surrounded by people who live in the hope and trust that things are going to turn out all right in the end, I can believe it too. In the light of day I can see how patience leads to tolerance, kindness and forgiveness, and I want to practice patience too.
But in the darkness, when I'm alone, things look different. Waiting seems futile. I grow frustrated with the obstacles in my way, and I think about ways to control both the people I have to deal with and the situation I find myself in. I am filled with anxiety, bitterness and anger. In the dark of night, patience seems like a fool's choice, and yet I long for the daylight to come.
