Basil was devoted to serving...

Basil was devoted to serving his Lord. Basil was baptized into the Christian faith at age 30. He lived in the fourth century A.D. About 10 years into his Christian life, there was a severe famine in the region where he lived. Having extensive property holdings, he decided to sell them and use the money in relief of the starving. He also became involved in raising other money to help those in need. As an organizer of the relief effort, he would not allow any discrimination when it came to the distribution of goods. All were to receive as needed, regardless of their religious background. Basil was devoted to serving his Lord, demonstrated by the fact that he used what wealth he had to care for God's children in need. (Festivals and Commemorations, Philip H. Pfatteicher, Augsburg Publishing house, 1980, 243.)
