Saying good-bye is never...

Saying good-bye is never easy. And after 35 years and 8,891 episodes, the loyal viewers of the soap opera Another World would certainly agree. On June 25, 1999, a large group of faithful viewers gathered at Blondie's Restaurant on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, right across from the NBC studios where Another World was filmed, to say good-bye to the show that had been such a big part of their lives.
The tears flowed as people shared their favorite memories of characters and situations and all the actors and actresses that had come through the cast over the years. The sobs were audible by the time the final scene rolled around and all the plot lines had been neatly tied up. The show's head writer concluded the get-together with a few words of assurance about the characters' futures. "We want you to know that these characters will love happily ever after. And so will you" (New York Times, June 26, 1999).
Perhaps Jesus' disciples felt the same when it came time to say good-bye to their friend, teacher, and Lord. But Jesus also had some words of assurance. "You are witnesses of these things. And I will send upon you what my Father has promised."
