She was every bit a mother, though she had no children. Myrtle, which in Persian means "star," shone brightly among the constellations of mothering relationships. She helped raise her younger siblings when her mother died at an early age. She tutored class after class of home economic students throughout the many years she was a teacher. Her nieces and nephews held her precious in their hearts as she accompanied the families on vacations and took the children on special trips. When she finally married in her mid-sixties, she accepted three stepsons and their entire families into her heart and became a mothering and grandmothering presence for them all. She died at the age of 91. At her funeral the church was packed as her children rose up and called her blessed.
