Paul urges the faithful to live out their faith like runners in a race. It should go without saying that one also needs to know where the finish line is.
Thomas Henry Huxley, a 19th-century British paleontologist, was late setting off to give a lecture. He jumped into a cab and shouted, "Top speed!" The cabman whipped the horse and they took off as fast as the animal could run.
Suddenly realization overcame the passenger. Huxley stuck his head out the window and called to the cabman, "Wait a minute! Do you know where I want to go?"
The driver shouted back, "No, your honor, but I'm going as fast as I can!"
