A generation ago, many preachers...

A generation ago, many preachers sermonized against ungodliness. They denounced sin
and sinners. Churches concentrated on eliminating iniquity. Many of them, however,
lacked any concept of grace. Recognizing the imbalance, others began to emphasize
God's grace. But many rode the pendulum too far.
Now only a few are concerned about immorality in the church. They don't see that God's grace includes training and correction. The word translated "training" conveys strong discipline. That means that it's incorrect to speak of God's grace that lacks the requirement of godliness. The recipients of God's grace should live exemplary lives. Folks who take part in ungodly activities should receive Christian training. Paul made it clear in 1 Corinthians 5:11, "But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother or sister who is sexually immoral or greedy, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or robber. Do not even eat with such a one."
When church leaders allow people to live by the world's standards instead of the Bible's, they teach a false grace for which God will hold them accountable.
