The scene repeats itself thousands of times a day all over the world. Loved ones grieve
over a body. Fondly recalling the person in life, they look at mementos and handle things
that foster precious memories.
In the case of Dorcas (Tabitha), there was much to recall. She had made clothes for poor widows. Dorcas (Greek) and Tabitha (Aramaic) both mean "gazelle." Was she one of those who went gazelle-like (quickly) from place to place helping the needy? When Peter arrived at the house, the widows showed the apostle all the garments Dorcas made for them. She was so loved, they wanted her back. Peter accommodated them by raising Dorcas from the dead.
When mourners stand over your body, will they recall the good you have done? Will they speak of your deeds for the destitute? Or will they mutter to themselves, "I'd just as soon not see him/her back?"
