In my senior year of high school, I asked my friend, Kathy, to go to the prom with me;
yet, in the weeks following Kathy's accepting, Donna and I fell in love. My friend, Bryan,
realized that all I talked about was Donna. He knew I was slighting Kathy and that Kathy
might be facing a terrible night at the prom. As I was babbling on about Donna one day
(and I remember exactly where we were), Bryan asked, "Who are you taking to the
prom?" I answered, "Donna" and he just stood there grimacing until I realized what I'd
said and what it meant. I was "cut to the heart."
Jerusalem's people on Pentecost are "cut to the heart," but for their own good. Now Peter explains how God provides for their forgiveness through Jesus Christ and how they can be saved from what they've done and what they've become.
