Dr. Susan Coady of Ohio...
Dr. Susan Coady of Ohio University defines a tradition as something a family does, has
done in the past, and is likely to do in the future. "These traditions," says Coady, "are
often very ritualistic, and though they might be culturally derived, they are family
specific." Each family celebrates Christmas in its own unique way. "Traditions,"
according to Coady, "are important because they provided stability for the family and
give the family a sense of history and a feeling of roots. Traditions also allow the family
generations to stay connected."
