Keeping secrets
Children's Activity
Object:
Materials per angel:
Plastic spoons
Black and red permanent markers
Thread or thin cord for hanger
Small amount of doll hair or raffia hair
5 inches of wired ribbon for body (around 3-inches wide works best)
6 inches of ribbon for wings (1.5-inches wide or wider)
Heavy craft glue
Bow or ribbon rose
Gold thread or ribbon
Instructions
Using the markers, have the children draw a face on the back of their spoons. Remove the wire from one side only of the 3-inch ribbon. Have the children gather the ribbon along the remaining wire. With the craft glue, turn the cut edge of the ribbon under, place glue on it, and overlap the second raw edge. This will form a complete circle with the gather. Have the children place the handle of the spoons into the ribbon circles, so the wire can be wrapped at the base of the spoon, forming a dress for the angel. Form a hanger from the thread or cording, then apply craft glue to the top and sides of the spoon and in the "bowl" of the spoon. Let the children add the hair material and thread the hanger into the glue and allow to dry. Fold the wing ribbon, both ends to the center, pinch them slightly together and apply glue to the side with the cut ends. Have the children place the wings on the backs of their angels, just below the hair. Glue the bow or ribbon rose at the angel's neckline in the front to cover the wire. Glue a piece of the gold thread or cord around the angel's forehead to form a halo and allow to dry. Read the Matthew 24:36 to the children and explain that not even the angels know the secrets of the Father.
