Never thirst again
Children's sermon
Object:
pitcher of water and an empty glass
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought a pitcher of water and
a glass with me this morning. I'm going to use it to tell you a
story about this morning's Bible lesson. (Pour some water into
the glass as you tell your story.) How many of you have ever been
so thirsty that all you could think of was drinking a glass of
water? (Let them answer.) That's what happened to Jesus one day.
Let me ask you another question. How would you like to have a
glass of water that will make you feel so good that you will
never be thirsty again? (Let them answer.) That would be an
amazing glass of water, wouldn't it!
Let me tell you a story about a drink of water that will never make you thirsty again. One day Jesus was walking to Galilee. He walked so far that he became very tired and very thirsty. He stopped at a well. But he didn't have a pitcher like mine to get a drink. A woman was also at the well. She had a pitcher. He asked her to get him a drink. Then he really surprised the woman. He said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink of the water that I give them will never be thirsty." The woman was amazed. She wanted a drink of that water. Do any of you know what kind of water Jesus was speaking of? (Let them answer.) Jesus was talking about himself! You see, Jesus is the "living water," which we as Christians drink. Jesus, as living water, gives us eternal life. That means that we are not afraid of death. Living water is what our faith is all about. So, when you are thirsty, get a drink of water. Think of Jesus when you drink water. Remember that when you have faith in Jesus, you are drinking "living water." When you know Jesus you will never be thirsty again!
