It's snowing inside
Children's sermon
Object:
A glass waterball
Good morning! This morning we are going to talk about
conflict. I brought with me a waterball to illustrate what I mean
by conflict. Conflict comes when we get involved with others
because of disagreement or anger or wrongdoing. If I take this
waterball and turn it upside-down (do so), the little
"snowflakes" inside will swirl around and it will look like it's
snowing inside the waterball. Conflict takes our peace away like
turning this waterball upside-down takes the calm scene away and
makes a snow scene.
Today's lesson talks about "the dragon." Who do you suppose that might be? (Let them answer.) "The dragon" is the devil. Now the devil is that which makes bad things happen. The devil disturbs our peace and causes hurt among people. "Michael" is an angel who fights against "the dragon" in a war in heaven. Michael is an angel who is on our side. Michael doesn't want the devil causing us pain or upset. Michael doesn't want the devil to take us away from God. Michael fights against the devil and fights for us. That is why we call this day "St. Michael and All Angels" day. Michael and the angels are on our side.
What is really important is that God is also on our side. Look at this waterball now. (Let them see the settling flakes in the waterball scene.) See how the scene is becoming peaceful and undisturbed like it was before? So we know that the war in heaven has already been fought and we know who won. God won! God and the angels. Now we know that since they are on our side, we can overcome any problem or temptation that comes our way. God and the angels are with us.
See how this waterball is in my hands? In the same way, our lives are in God's hands. I'm glad for that. I'm glad to know that bad things can happen to me, but they cannot defeat me because of God and the angels of God like Michael.
Dear God: We thank you for the angels who fight for us and are on our side. We thank you that our side has won the battle with good and evil. Amen.
