Strong again
Children's sermon
Object:
a brace or crutches
Good morning, boys and girls. Today I have something that all of you have
probably seen, but not all of you have used before. How many of you have
used a brace or crutches before? (Wait for show of hands.) What are
braces for? (Let them respond.) They keep arms or legs or fingers or hands
or backs or ankles straight or what we call "immobilized" so that the
bone or ligament can heal. It takes them a lot of time to heal and when we
move the part that's injured it can't heal. It needs to be still for our
bodies to be able to heal properly and get strong again. So the brace keeps
the part still so it can heal. What are crutches for? (Let them respond.)
Crutches help us get around when we have to stay off one foot or leg or
knee. Are crutches and braces fun? (Let them respond.) Some of you think
they're fun. They are fun sometimes because they make us feel special and
sometimes get more attention. But if you have had to have a brace or
crutches for a long time, you know that it makes your arms and hands very
sore to have crutches and a brace is sometimes uncomfortable. You may
want to move, but you can't. But if your leg or arm is healing properly, you
will soon be strong enough not to have to use the brace or crutches
anymore.
Our lesson today is about people who suffer hard times when sad things happen to them. While they are healing inside in their heart from whatever happened to them, they are becoming stronger and stronger. What do you think is making them stronger inside? (Let them respond.) God is! When we have sad times, we learn from them. We learn to trust in God. We learn that God loves us in happy times and also in sad times. During our sad times God helps us become strong again just like a brace or crutches help us heal and become strong again.
