"On becoming a saint"
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: The word "saint" in modern English has
come to mean a particularly holy person, a very special kind of
Christian. The real meaning, however, of the word "saint" is any
believer. When Paul wrote to the "Saints at Rome" or the "Saints
in Corinth," he was not writing to some special people, but to
all the believers at that place. As we celebrate All Saints' Day,
it is good that we let our children know that they too are saints
if they believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
* Bring a book about some of the famous "saints" of the
church and read stories about the lives of these people to the
children. Be sure to explain to them why they too are saints even
though they are not famous for doing some important work for God.
* Tell the children that since today is All Saints' Day we
would like to make a list of saints. See how many famous saints
they can list. When the list has several names, begin adding
their names to the list. Explain to them that they are saints if
they believe in Jesus.
Sunday school assembly opening:
* Begin the session by asking all of those who are God's
special saints to separate themselves from the rest of the group
and stand apart. When nobody does so, explain to them that
everyone who believes in Jesus is a saint and then discuss All
Saints' Day.
