Hold fast and don't let go!
Children's sermon
Object:
a written statement of faith (a creed or any other
written statement)
Good morning! I want to read to you a statement about what
our church believes to be the truth. (Read a part of the creed or
a simple statement of faith. If your church confesses a creed as
part of a liturgy, you can refer back to that confession.) Now, I
want to ask all of you a question. Do you believe that what I
just read is true? (Let them answer.) Good. I'm glad that you all
believe that it's true, because that is what we teach and believe
in this church. When you make a public statement that you do
believe what I read, it's called a "confession." The Bible tells
us that we all need to "hold fast to our confession." What do you
think that means? (Let them answer.) It means that we need to
believe this truth with all our heart and never, ever, deny it.
It means that we need to be ready to die before we give up this
truth. Do you think you can hold fast to this confession no
matter what happens? (Let them answer.) I certainly hope that you
can. Let's ask God to help us do that.
Dear Father in Heaven: We need Your help in standing firm in the
truth. Be with us and give us the courage and strength we need to
hold fast to our confession no matter what kind of pressures we
face. Amen.
