The best lawyer of all

Good morning! Have any of you ever got into some kind of
trouble? (Let them answer.) Yes, I'm sure we have all been in
various kinds of trouble in our lives. When you get into trouble
at home or school, you have to handle it by yourself. If you've
done something wrong, you just have to take your punishment.
Now, when adults get into trouble with the law, they need
some professional help, and there are people that are in the
business of helping people who are in legal trouble. What do we
call the person who we pay to help us when we have some legal
trouble? (Let them answer.) Yes, they're called lawyers or
attorneys. There are a lot of them here where we live. Look at
all of them listed here in the yellow pages. (Show the yellow
page listing on attorneys.) Even when people are guilty, a good
lawyer can sometimes get them off. So, if you were charged with a
serious crime, would you want to get a good lawyer? (Let them
answer.) Yes, I'm sure you would.
Do you know something? You and I are in serious trouble with
God because all of us have sinned and the Bible says that the
wages of sin is death. That's quite serious, isn't it? (Let them
answer.) But, we have the best lawyer in the universe. We have
Jesus to appear before God on our behalf. Jesus goes before God
for everyone who believes in him, and he says to God that we are
innocent because he has already paid the full price for our sins.
Isn't that great? Could we have a better lawyer than that? (Let
them answer.) No, we couldn't. He is really the best there is.
Let's thank Jesus for being our lawyer.
Dear Jesus: We thank you so much for pleading our case before the
Father in Heaven. We know that, because of you, we will all be
seen as innocent before God and will be with you forever in
Heaven. Amen.
