We're his!
Children's sermon
Object:
a book marked, "This book belongs to"
Good morning! I brought this book to show you today. This is
my book and I don't want to lose it, so look what I've done.
(Show the seal or plate showing your ownership.) By putting my
name in the book like that, everyone who reads the book will know
that it's my book and will return it to me. Do you have any of
your books marked this way? (Let them answer.)
Each of us, because we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, belongs to him just like this book belongs to me. And do you know what? Jesus has put a seal on us just like I have that seal on my book. Oh, you can't see the seal, but it's there! Those who believe in Jesus are his, and they have his promise that nobody can take them away from him. Isn't that a wonderful promise? (Let them answer.)
Now, if we belong to Jesus and nobody can take us away from him, why is it that some people do become lost and forget that they are his? (Let them answer.) While it is true that nobody can take us away, it is also true that we can run away from him, and sadly, many people do. Are all of you going to stay with Jesus and never run away from him? (Let them answer.) I certainly hope
that you will never do that. Let's ask Jesus to help us always remain his.
Dear Lord Jesus: We love you and we want to remain yours forever. Help us to be strong in our faith so that we will never run away, but remain yours forever. Amen.
