The Apostle Paul
Children's sermon
Object:
a handwritten letter in an envelope
Good morning! (show them the letter) See this? This is a letter in an envelope. People write letters when they want to send news to other people. If I wanted to send a letter I would write down words on this paper, place it in an envelope, put an address and a stamp on it and then mail it. Eventually the letter would get to the person on the address and they would read what I had written. Letters were especially important in the days when people didn't have telephones or e-mail.
Today we're going to learn more about the Apostle Paul. We talk about him a lot during our time together, so I think we should learn about who he was and why he's so important. Paul loved writing letters. In fact, most of the books of the New Testament are really letters that Paul wrote to people in different cities. The book of Romans is a letter written to the people of Rome. The books of Corinthians were letters written to people in a place called Corinth.
Paul loved Jesus Christ more than anything else. When Paul became a Christian his whole world changed, so he spent the rest of his life telling people how wonderful the love of God is. He traveled to places far and near spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. In today's scripture passage Paul is sad because there are people who don't believe that Jesus is God's son. Some people don't understand that Jesus is the Messiah that the world has been waiting for since the beginning of time. He wishes that everyone could see Jesus the same way he does.
Paul is one of the most important figures in the Bible. If Paul hadn't worked so hard to spread the message of Jesus Christ, many people wouldn't ever have heard about him.
Prayer: God, thank you for Paul's faithfulness. Amen.
