As a youngster, aspiring to be a leader, I always admired
Bob, who chose his team with his heart instead of his desire to
win. It was obvious, even to someone several years younger, that
this leader did not want one of the older boys with minimum
talent to be embarrassed among his peers.
Bob's feelings were not limited to the less talented. He
also encouraged the very young to try harder, but never to the
extent that they would become discouraged with defeat. He was
patient and protective of everyone on his team. It also became
