When our oldest grandson was very young, he would awaken at night for changing and feeding. Sometimes he was not ready to go back to sleep. We had a small flashlight, and with the lights off we would shine the small pin-point beam of light on the ceiling and around the room. After a while he was ready to go back to sleep.
It is not always the size of a light that can dispel darkness; even what appears to be small and insignificant, can often make a difference in how we perceive what is going on about us.
It is a Child -- a small and insignificant light to many -- that has made a big difference for millions of people down through the centuries. As Christians we believe Isaiah's words found their fulfillment in Jesus, and continue to do so in the lives of all who observe the light.
