When Michael and David were...

When Michael and David were ten, they decided that what their dad needed most for Father's Day was a tree house. Every day after school they hauled old boards, nails, hammers, and saws out to the stand of trees behind the barn. They sawed and hammered but they couldn't get more than a couple of boards to stay in the tree. Finally, they confided in their mother. Unbeknownst to them, she told their father. One night after supper, he just happened to wander down to the stand of trees where he found his boys hard at it. He asked them what they were up to, and when they told him, he said, "A tree house would be grand, boys, but instead of you building one for me, let's build it together." Which is what they did. It is still out there, and now when Michael or David bring their family to the farm, their children run straight to the tree house (after hugs from Grandma, of course!).
David wanted to build God a house. Instead, God built David a far more impressive house -- a house that in Christ stands forever.
