When Joseph's brothers came before him in Egypt, he had both the power and the motive to have them killed for the way they'd once treated him. But he decided otherwise. Not everyone in such a position behaves that way. A case in point was Ramon Narvaez, prime minister of Spain during the nineteenth century and all-around tough guy. When he was dying, a priest asked him, "Does your Excellency forgive all your enemies?" Narvaez muttered, "I don't have to forgive my enemies. I have had them all shot."
