We don't have any money...

"We don't have any money," Doreen cried to her older sister. Doreen's husband had left
her and their children over a year ago. At first, he was good about giving them money for
expenses each week, but as time went on, the support became less and less.
At age 39, Doreen went back to school. She was fortunate to receive grant money to pay her tuition costs, but it would take her at least three years before she could complete her education and gain employment. She met the challenge head on.
Some of her friends were tired of listening to her complain and lament all the time about her situation. Some of her friends even purposefully avoided her because they did not want to talk with her.
The children were old enough to understand what was happening between their parents, however it was still hard on them. They were no longer able to buy new clothes at the start of the school year or receive the latest electronics on their birthdays.
One day, at a particularly low point in Doreen's life, she received an anonymous monetary gift in the mail. "Thought you could use some extra cash" was all the note said. The next week there were several bags of groceries on her porch when she came home from classes. Her children received gift cards to purchase new clothes. None of them knew who was helping them out, but they were certainly appreciative.
Thanks to the generosity of caring Christians, Doreen, for the first time in a long time, saw her way out of her problem. A sense of hope engulfed her.
