Washington School's principal, Mr. Tavender...

Washington School's principal, Mr. Tavender, had been a classroom teacher before being promoted to his current position. He missed a lot of the regular contact with the children, so he indulged himself by sharing playground duty with the teachers. Some of them were amazed that he enjoyed such duty, but he cherished the opportunity to be close to the young people and experience their enthusiasm and excitement as they played outdoors.
However, one day's experience was not so pleasant. From across the playground, he observed four children taunting a fifth child rather severely. As he moved closer to intercede, he could hear the jeers about the young boy's appearance and his apparent lack of athletic ability. The victim was trying hard not to cry but was not succeeding. With every near tear came even more mocking.
Mr. Tavender took note of the names, gently escorted the young boy back to his classroom teacher, then "invited" the gang of four into his office. As he began his speech to them, one of the four said, "Excuse me, Mr. Tavender. But I wasn't involved in this. I just happened to be in the area when it happened." Knowing it was a blatant lie, Mr. Tavender simply said, "Congratulations, Frankie. You have just lied your way into even more detention time."
