Was the stone at Jesus...
Illustration
Was the stone at Jesus' tomb round or square? Tradition paints a portrait of a round stone blocking the entrance to the tomb. Archaeologists, however, have discovered that the vast majority (98 percent) of the more than 900 tombs uncovered in the Jerusalem area have square stones in front of them. Not that it ultimately makes any difference, but we do try to visualize that first Easter morning as if we were actually there. The four round stones that have been found were at burial chambers of prosperous or distinguished families. These graves tend to have many rooms with even a foyer entrance.
