Truck-stop Chaplain Charlie was sitting with a distraught young man in a McDonalds just off Route 80. The young man had been abandoned by a privately owned moving company that paid him under the table and off the books. Chaplain Charlie would make arrangements for a bed, two meals, and a bus ticket, but first he had to know if the young man was wanted for any crimes. After a few minutes of hemming and hawing, he acknowledged that he did have some charges pending in another state.
"A friend of mine loaned me his girlfriend's car for the weekend, but he didn't tell her about it. Well, they had a fight and broke up that weekend, so she reported the car stolen. I didn't know what else to do, so I ran. But I'm innocent, I didn't steal nobody's car."
"I understand," said Chaplain Charlie. "But you can't spend your life running. You're going to have to answer these charges. You know you're innocent, and God knows you're innocent. God will help you. So go to court and face the accusations."
