Tommy Warswick had grown tall...
Tommy Warswick had grown tall and broad by the time he turned 16 and his bulky strength got him into all kinds of trouble. He'd cut across corner lots, for instance, in spite of signs saying not to; he'd order a tin-roof sundae at Louis Cordon's confectionery and not pay for it. He'd also rough up the smaller kids. He thus displayed his arrogance and made a lot of enemies. Mr. Williams, the town marshall, spoke to Tommy now and then, sort of warning him but also showing hopefulness in him. Maybe he'd change; some of us school friends liked him enough to hope so.
