Three times in this passage...

Three times in this passage we find "where" followed by words indicating those early -- disappointed -- disciples who wanted to know where his dead body was. Scholars have pointed out the "where" of an earlier chapter. John 17:24 reads, "... they also ... may be with me where I am ..."
I want to point out an earlier "where," one I hope you treasure as I do. The Rev. Samuel C. Headrick was a pastor for 41 years before his death in 1973. At the last when he was rushed to the hospital, he awoke to say, "Where." His loved ones thought he was asking a question, and so they replied that he was in St. Louis. He shook his head, and again said "Where."
Seeking to soothe Sam, they tried to assure him that he was in Barnes Hospital. Again, Sam shook his head. This time Sam had the strength to complete what he wanted to say, "Where I am you may be also ..." (John 14:3). Remember the words before those, "And when I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." Sam preceded me as a pastor of this church. He also set a precedent with his ultimate faith.
